Import Potential Clients

Ways to get help while you work:

  • Handy Tool Tips
for each field on every screen. When you hover in a particular field, Geni gives you hints about the information that should appear in the field; in addition, if more than one answer is available, Geni displays all of the possible entries for quick reference and selection.
  • Quick-Pick Lists
are generated from integrated data contained in the setup, case management and accounting features of the program to make data selection quicker and learning how to use Geni faster.
  • Help Screens
are available by pressing the Help button on the Taskbar at each level of the program or Ctrl+H on pop-up screens so each user can “learn as you go.”

Use Import Potential Clients to import a .CSV file located on the server or on a diskette that contains a list of potential clients that you want to merge into the existing Potential Clients database.

Click on MARKETING > IMPORT POTENTIAL CLIENTS from the main Taskbar from anywhere in the Geni Law program.

potentials import dropdown

Immediately upon clicking the Import Potential Clients tab, a blank profile opens:

potentials import profile

Use these steps to Import Potential Clients:

The top line of the profile, starting with “File to Import” (in red letters) is where you will do the work explained below. Imported files must follow Comma Seperated Values format (CSV). These are the fields on the top line you will be working with:

File to Import Enter the file path or click Browse (the button to the right) to find the file on the server to import into the Potential Clients database; click on the desired file and the File to Import field will auto-fill with the file path and file name
Preview Loads a few rows from the selected file to display how the data would be imported into the Potential Clients database.
Skip 1st If your CSV file has the top row as a header, this allows it to be skipped so only real data is added to the database.
Merge Press the Merge button; the screen will populate with the merged database

When a file is chosen it will display the rows in a table below the main screen. This allows you to see the numbered position of fields in the file.

You can type values into the fields shown on screen (NAME1, DIV, GROUP, etc), if you want to use a specific value in every imported entry. An example would be if all of your imported potentials would be going into a single division, you could type that division now, or if you are using a list of business names you could set the group to B instead of P.

Static entries are only there to supplement the dynamic entries, which are made by referencing the fields shown below the form in the spreadsheet. You do this with the use of squiggly brackets around a number, ie {1}, {2} or {3}.

You can also mix static and dynamic values, by typing them in such as “{1} – {2} from CSV” would merge the first field, a dash, the second field and from CSV into the field.
